Spirit Yachts Set to Exhibit Spirit 72 at Southampton Boat Show

Spirit Yachts 72 - Guernsey

Leading modern classic yacht design and build company Spirit Yachts will be displaying its latest sailing yacht, a Spirit 72 at this year’s Southampton Boat Show.

Making its UK debut at the show, the 22.1m Spirit 72 is a Bermudan sloop designed for regatta racing and occasional cruising.  The yacht displays all Spirit Yachts’ iconic design hallmarks including long overhangs, flush decks, and curved deckhouse with integrated fan windows.

Spirit Yachts’ Managing Director Karen Underwood commented,

We are thrilled to showcase the Spirit 72 at this year’s Southampton Boat Show, where she is sure to create a spectacle.  She is a stunning example of our world-class design and craftsmanship expertise, and we look forward to welcoming visitors onboard.

Spirit Yachts’ Production and Design Director Julian Weatherill added,

Interest in the 72 is already high.  She is a timelessly elegant yacht that has the sailing performance for an experienced sailor and the simplicity in her deck layout for a first-time buyer.  Having built three 72s already this is a proven design, which can be customised to create a unique yacht for any client.

Delivering on the owner’s brief for performance racing and cruising, the Spirit 72 has a light displacement of 28 tonnes, lightweight, carbon EC6 rigging, and carbon spars from Hall Spars.  Complimenting her rigging is a wardrobe of performance cruising and racing sails by OneSails, including a recyclable 4T FORTE main sail and jib.

In the cockpit there are four electric and two manual Lewmar winches, and a further two electric and two manual Lewmar winches are positioned at the mast. Working closely with the owner, Spirit Yachts’ electrical team selected and installed a racing-orientated suite of B&G navigational equipment.

Down below, the Spirit 72 is a warm and welcoming space that showcases the talent of Spirit Yachts’ craftsmen and women.  The yellow cedar hull planking and Sipo Mahogany ringframes on show throughout the interior provide a reminder of the yacht’s natural and sustainably sourced build materials.

With accommodation for eight across three double ensuite cabins and the saloon, the Spirit 72 offers a luxurious owner and guest experience as well as sailing performance.

The large, open plan galley is flooded with natural light from the fan windows above and offers a social space next to the split-level saloon dining and seating areas.  A starboard-side chart table also houses a Victron CZone system with remote management to facilitate land-based support from the Spirit team.
